A live stream by a Chinese streamer ended in tragedy when a man wielding a sword began attacking people, even severing the hand of an influential individual, all captured on the stream.
On May 23, in Haimen, Fujian, China, the streamer was chatting with a friend when a sword-wielding man suddenly appeared and attacked them. In a viral clip, the IRL Chinese broadcaster and his friend managed to escape the attacker, but not before the assailant cut off the friend’s hand during the scuffle.
Another video showed a group fleeing as the attacker pursued them with the weapon. There were 99 viewers during the broadcast, and the incident spread widely on social media in China and beyond.
The man was apprehended after severing the streamer’s hand with a sword. According to Asia One, ambulances and police were dispatched to the scene upon reports of a brawl. Subsequently, the police found the suspect, named ‘Luo,’ had a dispute with the live streamer and his friend on Douyin, the Chinese TikTok, and retaliated by attacking them with a sword. The streamer and his friend were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, despite losing a hand and sustaining back injuries.
Photographs circulating online depicted the victim’s hand on the ground, prompting calls for justice against the sword-wielding individual. An image was also shared of a man in a hospital bed with an arm wrapped where his hand should have been. Hours after the violent incident, the police located and arrested the suspect, with the investigation ongoing.
