Israel’s War On Gaza Live: Delegation To Ceasefire Mediators
Israel Continues Military Operation in Rafah While Sending Delegation to Ceasefire Mediators
The Israeli government has announced that it will continue its military operation in Rafah, a city located in the southern Gaza Strip, despite agreeing to send a delegation to ceasefire mediators in Cairo. The decision comes after Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that controls Gaza, accepted a ceasefire proposal put forward by Qatari and Egyptian mediators.
Israeli tanks captured the Rafah border crossing after advancing overnight, while fighter jets attacked residential homes, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 people. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated that although the Hamas proposal fell short of Israel’s demands, they would send a working-level delegation to engage with the mediation intermediaries, which include Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
The Israeli War Cabinet unanimously decided to continue military activity in Rafah to maintain pressure on Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that they are currently conducting targeted strikes against Hamas terror targets in eastern Rafah.
The escalation of violence in the region has led to a devastating humanitarian crisis. United Nations agencies and aid groups have warned of the severe consequences of any further Israeli military assault on Rafah, as tens of thousands of Palestinians have been ordered to evacuate ahead of the attacks. Since October 7th, at least 34,735 people have been killed and 78,108 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza. In Israel, the death toll from Hamas attacks on October 7th stands at 1,139, with dozens still being held captive.
The international community has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to diplomatic negotiations to resolve the long-standing conflict between Israel and Palestine. The United States, a key ally of Israel, has expressed support for Israel’s right to defend itself while also emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The situation remains tense, with both sides showing no signs of backing down. As the Israeli delegation prepares to meet with ceasefire mediators in Cairo, the world watches anxiously, hoping for a breakthrough that could bring an end to the violence and suffering in the region. The path to lasting peace, however, remains fraught with challenges, as deep-rooted issues of land, security, and self-determination continue to divide Israelis and Palestinians.
The international community must remain engaged and committed to supporting a just and peaceful resolution to the conflict, one that addresses the legitimate concerns and aspirations of both peoples. Only through dialogue, compromise, and a genuine willingness to build trust and understanding can Israel and Palestine hope to break the cycle of violence and create a brighter future for generations to come.
